Course Overview
The Advanced programme in Film Appreciation renders systematic exposition to the concepts of mise en scene, genre and styles in cinema. The participants will learn the complexity of film language explained in terms of realism, expressionism and other major movements in cinema. Overall a historical perspective will be maintained along with the conceptual discussion on classic examples from world cinema.

To understand conceptually the practice of various styles in cinema

Course Components
  • The concept of mise-en-scene in cinema
  • Cinema as an art medium and as a communication medium
  • Historical origins of important stylistic trends
  • Realism, Non-Realism and reality in cinema

Class time will include lectures and screenings. In addition to it, the participants will have access to selected WWI guest screenings and interactions with renowned filmmakers. There will be a final assessment at the end of the programme.

Notes to fees:
  • Security Deposit of 20% programme fees where applicable is payable by students enrolling into this programme. This is non-interest bearing and refundable on programme completion or withdrawal, subject to deductions.
  • Project costs are not included in the fees.
  • Fee inclusive of refundable deposit, government taxes and registration fee.
  • Special discounts will be available for groups, WWI Alumni and associations.
  • Students enrolling for three or more levels of the same programme will be given special concession at the time of payment
